Pomerape (6280 m.a.s.l.) more complex than Parinacota. is the lower of the Payachatas (twins in Aymara native language). The two volcanoes are located in Sajama National Park, an extraordinary place in the Andes of Bolivia.

There are different options to reach the summit from the Bolivian side.

You will be able to experience a diversified flora and fauna: The queñuas Woods (trees that grow in the highest altitude in the world), elegant vicuñas, lamas, alpacas, suris, and with some luck andean wild cats, pumas and condor. Besides all this, there is a geyser chain (boling slopes), place where you’ll can watch boiling water coming out of the ground and termal waters in open air, both product of the volcanic activity underground.

DETAILED PROGRAM

Day 1: LA PAZ – SAJAMA VILLAGE (4200 m.a.s.l.)  

Departure from the hotel to cross the Altiplano (the high plateau) early in the morning. On our way we will make a stop in Curahuara de Carangas village, where we will visit the colonial church known as “Capilla Dieciséis del Altiplano” (Chapell sixteen of the high plateau). We will arrive at Sajama village around the afternoon.

Night at the hostel.

 Day 2: SAJAMA VILLAGE – POMERAPE HIGH CAMP (5300 m.a.s.l.) 

After having our breakfast, we will approach our base camp by car. Meeting with our team of shepards and hiking towards high ground where we will set up our camp.

Camping night.

Day 3: POMERAPE HIGH CAMP – POMERAPE SUMMIT (6280 m.a.s.l.)  – SAJAMA VILLAGE (4200 m.a.s.l.) – LA PAZ (3600 m.a.s.l.) 

The climb from the base is done through a volcanic terrain which will not be hard technically speaking. We will go through plumbed slopes and volcanic ridges. We will enjoy of a magnificent sunrise and go down through the same way to the base camp where the car will be waiting for us to go back to the Sajama village and Return to La Paz city.
